We all need goals. The start of a new year is as good a time as any to set goals. It's a good idea to check the list from last year to see if we deserve a pat on the back. I didn't do too badly. I see that of the 10 UFOs I finished 8. Only 2 remain untouched. Of course those 2 are the biggest and hardest to do. That is why they remain undone.

We will be having the family here on Sunday for our turkey feast. For the last 2 years I have donated a quilt. This year I didn't think I could get a quilt finished in time so I planned to make some tote bags. There were lots of big quilts in the local quilt show last weekend. Very few wall quilts or doll size or miniatures. Most were done in classes or made from commercial or magazine patterns. I only spotted 3 that were hand quilted. Most were machine quilted by one of the local professional long-armers.

I went camping. That's right. Here I am living in the woods and what do I do for fun? Why, I put my folding chair in the dirt beside a smokey camp fire by a trickling stream and sleep on a short, hard bed in a tin box while freezing my booty off. Fun times! You see, we bought a travel trailer and this week was our test run.

I even took a class in 1987 from Becky Schaefer author of the book Working in Miniature. The technique she taught involved sewing on graph paper to make tiny blocks constructed with dozens of microscopic pieces. It's a tedious process but the results are amazing.

We are both fans of Bonnie's idea of cutting fabric into strips and storing the strips in bins according to size. I'm partial to the 2 &amp; 1/2" strips for most of my scrap quilts so I've cut lots of my old outdated fabrics into strips of that size. I've steadily added to that container. All this finish up activity during the last several weeks has meant I've been spending most days doing quilt related stuff and I'm beginning to burn out.
