She Can't Garden and So She Sews

Local wisdom advises not to plant your summer garden until after Mother's Day. I spent a lot of time in the yard over the last weekend getting prepared to plant my summer garden. If I had planted on Monday all my efforts would have been wasted. It snowed again yesterday. The local native Americans have a saying that winter isn't over until it snows on the dogwoods. Since the dogwoods started blooming last week, I'm hoping that this snowfall is the last gasp of winter and I can plant some tomatoes next weekend. Although you never know. One year it snowed in June on Father's Day!

Meanwhile, since spring isn't co-operating, I've been staying indoors and sewing. I have some more finished UFOs. Spring Whirlygigs. This was put together from the little leftover parts from one of the tablerunners I made last year for Christmas gifts.

Homespun Pinwheels now resides on my front porch hanging with a twig picked up while raking my yard. I may add some buttons. Or maybe not.

Tomorrow is the second meeting of Little Quilts Club at Timeless Calico. Since I gave Julie the first one I made, I made another for me. I couldn't go tomorrow without my own April project to share.

There were bonus HST from the makings so I put them together and made a teensie tiny for myself as well. It measures 9 1/2" X 13"

We too are not supposed to plant until after Memorial Day in NH. It has been very cold here this week and went below freeezing a couple of the nights. May be I can plant soon!

Nice mini's. I have my garden boxes but nothing planted yet here in the Pacific NW. Still having some chilly nights.

Cute teeny quilts. I planted my tomatoes and they sat a week and did nothing and now they are beginning to grow - and no sunshine today, but fortunately no snow either. The place in the yard where they are planted gets nice and hot during the day so they should do great this year.

yesterday we had heavy snow falling all morning long ~ then in the mid afternoon it turned to heavy rain . . . a very wet day. today it was somewhat better but did end up getting a small hail storm this afternoon. crazy spring weather anyway~!!!~ you are right though it does make for good indoors sewing/creating time.

love your cute little quilts and the fact that you use all your leftover bits to make them. there are a few ladies within my guild who think it's crazy that i'll save every "little" scrap . . . meanwhile they're throwing away 3 to 4 inch strips of fabric in the garbage~!!!~ i think it feels good to rescue what i can and make little quilts out of it . . .

What a great little show and tell:) I really love the homespun pinwheels.
Last year I planted tomatoes and peppers in mid May, but had to replant them in early June because of a heavy frost. I'm waiting this year. Good luck wiht your garden.

I like the Homespun Pinwheels quilt very much.
I have never heard the snow on the Dogwoods theory for planting. Interesting thought.

Hey Julie, thanks for the note at FB. Thought I'd come over here to answer and see what you are up to *VBS* And my goodness girl, you've been busy!!! I love all the little finishes, you definitely inspire me to get at some of my little ones. It's so wonderful to see you playing with your scraps, bit and pieces! Spring and planting will come eventually, she says, hopefully. Hugs, Finn
